Scissors or nipper: CGBE cuticle tools

Two curved scissors and a spring nipper for hangnails and loose dead skin.

Both pairs of scissors are 3.7 inches of stainless steel with curved, extra-fine blades, and the handles set them apart. The curved pair has a pointed tip and mirror-polished blades, 1.7 inches across the finger rings. At 1.96 inches, the round-handle pair is a touch wider, with loop handles that also make it a brow scissor. Each comes in six colors.

Our nipper does the jobs scissors find awkward, such as a hangnail at the side wall. It has a 3/4 jaw in 4CR13 stainless steel, a spring that opens it after each squeeze, a silicone grip that holds with wet hands and a sleeve over the jaw. Trim only hangnails and loose dead skin: dermatologists advise against cutting the cuticle itself, as our story on cleaning nail tools explains.

All three blades come from the cuticle shelf of the CGBE range.

Questions

About CGBE cuticle scissors

Which CGBE cuticle scissors have the finer tip?

The curved cuticle scissors, with an extra-fine pointed tip and mirror-polished blades. By contrast, the round-handle pair trades that point for loop handles and a fuller grip.

When should you reach for the CGBE nipper instead of scissors?

For a hangnail or a firm bit of dead skin at the side of the nail, where the 3/4 jaw and the spring give a short, controlled snip.

How do you store CGBE cuticle tools between uses?

Slide the sleeve back over the nipper jaw and keep cleaned tools in a closed container. In a salon, clean each tool the way your state board requires before it goes away.
